Famous People of the War of 1812
There were many important people in the War of 1812, I have chosen four important people among many others that I will be talking about, such as: Tecumseh, Sir Isaac Brock, Laura Secord and James Madison.
Tecumseh was a Native American; he was an important leader of the Shawnee tribe. Tecumseh was a very skilled warrior and he always tried to do what he thought was best for the warriors in the Shawnee tribe. During the war Tecumseh and his tribe joined forces with Sir Isaac Brock. In the Siege of Detroit, this had an impact on Detroit surrendering in August 1812. Although he was killed on October 5th 1813, by a U.S soldier during the battle of Thames in Chatham-Kent (Ontario); Tecumseh had led more than 2,000 warriors before his death in the War.

Laura Secord was born in Massachusetts, but she moved to Queenston in Upper
Canada after American Revolution. Early in the war Laura’s husband James Secord
was wounded in the battle of Queenston heights and was rescued from the battle
field by Laura. On June 21st 1812, she heard U.S soldiers planning a surprise
attack on British outpost of beaver dams. So the next morning Laura walked 20
miles (32kilometers) to warn the British. After 18 hours of walking, she was
finally able to deliver the message to a British lieutenant. Two days later
Native allies ambushed the U.S soldiers and the battle of beaver dams ended,
with approximately 500 U.S soldiers who surrendered.
